A funding rate is the periodic payment between longs and shorts on a perpetual futures contract. Type a notional, a rate and how many intervals you will hold. The tool does not load live rates from any exchange.
Formula: notional × rate% × interval count. Positive rate: longs pay shorts. The interval (8h / 4h / 1h) is set by the venue and changes — check that venue’s docs. This is a payment, not yield, and not a live rate.
The formula
Payment per interval = position notional × (rate% / 100).
Total = payment per interval × interval count.
Positive rate: longs pay shorts. Negative rate: shorts pay longs. The exchange does not keep this payment.
Most CEXs still settle every 8 hours; some venues use 4h or 1h. Confirm the current rule on that venue before you size a hold.
Limitations
- Rates here are user-entered. They are not VoltArb live funding and not a forecast.
- Settlement times, interest-rate / premium components and auto-deleveraging are venue-specific and change.
- A payment is not APY. Multiplying an 8-hour rate into a “monthly yield” hides the fact that the rate can flip.

FAQ
How do I calculate a crypto funding fee?
Multiply position notional by the funding rate for one interval, then by the number of intervals you will hold. Example: $10,000 × 0.01% × 1 = $1.00 paid by the long if the rate is positive.
Does a positive funding rate mean I earn yield?
Only if you are short. If you are long, you pay. Funding is a transfer between traders, not a coupon from the exchange.
Where do I get a live rate?
From the exchange, or from VoltArb’s funding scanner (Pro). This calculator will not invent one.
